Door Mountable Cover with Soundblocking Core (40″x 84″) Soundproof your door with soundproof-er door panel.
Soundproofing a door is very important. Door is usually the “weakest link” in the soundproofing of a room or apartment. To block the sound coming through the door, the door has to be massive and solid. With airtight sealing all around it. Double doors are even better. But in residential housing, this is not the case. Most interior doors are hollow. There is an opening under the door and it usually does not close very tight.
This is why this soundproof-er door cover with sound blocking core made with limp mass sound barrier (in this case we used Mass Loaded Vinyl = MLV) is a great option to add mass to the door and block as much as 33 dB of noise.
The advantage of this door cover is that it sits on a door and it would move with the door. This way you can add mass to the door and have it opening inside with the door cover on it!
When using that door cover to soundproof your apartment and door, please bear in mind that the cover adds a lot of weight to the door. Make sure that the hinges are strong enough to support the weight. The door soundproof panel is designed to have the side facing the interior to have a Producer’s Choice acoustic blanket material on it.
We have two options: to fit 32 inch wide doors and 36 inch wide doors.
- Size: 40″ x 84″ Sound-Proofer Door Cover with Sound blocking core made with Limp Mass Sound barrier (Mass loaded Vinyl – MLV) with STC rating of 33.
- Weight: is about 40 pounds per panel.
- Color – Black on Both Sides.
- Construction: Limp mass barrier sandwiched between layers of Ballistic Nylon and Acoustic blanket Producer’s Choice. With a special pouch to go over the top of the door.
The size of the door SB panels may vary by 1- 2 inches.
For example the width of the panel: we are using a mass loaded vinyl core, which is 1 meter wide ( 39.37 inches)
We do not cut anything out of the width.
Then we add blankets and nylon so the width adds up to about 40 inches. Plus or minus.
The purpose of this panel is to add mass to the door itself. Sealing the cracks around the door cannot be achieved with this product.
Actual Doors may not be the same. The gap under a door also differs depending on the flooring, door frame, and other specific features of your household. For example rooms with wall-to-wall carpets usually have no gap between the door and the top of the carpet. On the other hand rooms with hardwood floors usually have a large gap. If the panel was made too long it would get stuck and the door would not open.
We also consider that over time the panel will relax and sag a little.
